Labor movement definition is - an organized effort on the part of workers to improve their economic and social status by united action through the medium of labor unions. The labor movement is a broad and still going effort to organize workers into unions in order to gain collective strength in negotiations with employers about wages and working conditions (Riggs, 2015, p. 57). Since its peak in the mid-20th century, the American labor movement has been in steady decline, with losses in the private sector larger than gains in the public sector.
